Responsible for boat catastrophe captured

A militia group in one of Libya’s smuggling town has captured some of those alleged to be responsible for the drowning of up to 300 people off the Libyan coast Thursday.

Three men were  seized this weekend by the “Masked Brigade”, a militia that supposedly upholds the law in Zuwara  in the absence of a functioning Libyan state. It accused them of being responsibile for the sinking of a boat carrying between 400 and 500 people that were trying to reach Europe.

The boat began to sink outside the coast of Libya and the bodies of many of those who drowned were washed up on the seashore close to Zuwara.

Rescuers saved 198 people and 110 bodies have been recovered, leaving as many as 200 people unaccounted for.
