Workers’ passports still kept by Omani employers

Despite several warnings from the government, some Omani employers are reportedly still keeping passports of foreign laborers working in the country.

Since legislation passed in 2010, it is illegal for Omani companies to keep the passports of their employees.

“There are still some who are violating this rule. We have complaints on this matter and we try to deal with them legally,” director general of labor welfare at the Ministry of Manpower, Salim bin Said Al Badi told Times of Oman.

He also pointed out that the Public Prosecution could take legal action against employers who violate this rule.
