Turkey trains Mosul forces to Fight the Islamic State

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Çavuşoğlu said that his country is training the Mosul National Guards to destroy IS in Iraq.

Çavuşoğlu insisted that the Iraqi parliament had accepted the training and that the new Iraqi government itself had invited Turkey to train its soldiers and policemen.

According to the Turkish official, his country is fighting with the international coalition against IS in Syria But they also want to join the operations in Iraq for the same goal, because ” the terrorism must be wiped out of the two countries” he said.

He pointed to the possibility of increasing or reducing the number of the Turkish soldiers in Northen Iraq after an evaluating of the situation there.

Approximately 150 Turkish soldiers were deployed near Mosul on Dec. 4 to replace training forces already in the area. Also, 20-25 tanks were sent to the region.
