More than 60 civilians were killed and about 100 injured in a series of massacres committed by Assad regime’s warplanes in Aleppo and its countryside over the past 5 days, Orient News reported. Aleppo offensive
For the first time since the beginning of the Syrian crisis in 2011, Aleppo and Idlib governorates cancelled Friday prayers. Judicial authority in both governorates asked civilians not to attend the prayers due to the intensity of the airstrikes. Aleppo offensive
Tens of rockets and barrel bombs targeted Kastello Road, killing 15 civilians and Assad jets stepped up attacks on al-Kallasa, al-Salheen, al-Sakhoor, Sheikh Khader and al-Hellok neighborhoods of Aleppo, activists added.
“The ferocious campaign of barrel bombs and rockets is still attacking Aleppo. We spare no pain and we hardly ever sleep because of this nonstop wave of Assad bombardment,” one of the Civil Defense (White Helmet) volunteers said. Aleppo offensive
“The warplanes hit al-Sakhoor, al-Baadeen, Sheikh Kader. People in al-Hellok are still under the rubble. They are trapped under the buildings. Civilians are under the daily attacks of barrel and cluster bombs. They are attacked by at least 50 barrel bombs every day,” one of the locals said.
“All of us are civilians and I am among those who were trapped for long hours. By some miracle, we manged to breathe. We do thank to the White Helmet rescuers. I wonder how we escaped,” one of the survivors told Orient News.
“It is the sixth successive day of the bombardment campaign on Aleppo. It has entered the fifteenth day in Aleppo northern countryside. No one was killed except the civilians, and nothing was destroyed except the public service buildings. These massacres are committed by Assad regime under the pretext of countering terrorism, while the world is standing by doing nothing,” a Syrian activist said.
Hadi al-Abdullah statement
Opposition activist Hadi al-Abdullah said that the Syrian regime targeted civilian neighborhoods during the last three days. Al-Abdullah told Asharq Al-Awsat that the regime is intentionally targeting civilian areas as the number of civilians killed during the past 12 hours reached 62.
Al-Abdullah believed that the intensity of the attacks can only be viewed as the regime’s attempt to pressure the Higher Committee for Negotiations (HNC) to return to the Geneva talks according to its conditions.
He revealed that the opposition believes that the regime has been granted a green light by the U.S. and international community to execute the massacres.
Consequently, besieged Mare’ city witnessed intense clashes between fighting factions and ISIS. Also, two explosions were heard on the outskirts of the city. Opposition commander told Reuters that the U.S.-led coalition air-dropped weapons to the fighters in the town. Aleppo offensive
Activist Hadi al-Abdullah described the coalition’s step as “shy” saying that these weapons are not enough and won’t change much. He asked the coalition to pressure their allies, Syrian Democratic Forces, to open a humanitarian corridor to allow the entrance of humanitarian aid and evacuate injured civilians.
