Syrian rebels announced on Sunday launching a major offensive in order to break the siege laid by Assad regime on the opposition-held parts of Aleppo, according to the operations room of Jaysh al-Fatah.

Dr. Abdullah al-Muheseni, a senior judge in Jaysh al-Fatah (Army of Conquest), announced that launching a major offensive to control Aleppo is imminent, Orient News correspondent reported.

“Within the coming hours, the Levant will witness the largest battle against Assad regime,” al-Muheseni said in a speech in which he had frequently referred to the glorious victories made by Jaysh al-Fatah in Idlib aiming at infecting the followers with enthusiasm and religious fervor.

Dr. Abdullah al-Muheseni called on Friday upon opposition fighters to unify their ranks and adjust matters of indifference to liberate Syria from Assad regime and its and sectarian mercenaries.

Opposition fighters started by attacking the stationing points of Assad regime in Assad-controlled plateaus and many fronts on the outskirts of the city.

As the battle started, opposition was able to control many strategic plateaus to the south of Aleppo. Also, Armored Vehicles Battalion was controlled by opposition and many of Assad regime forces were killed. Two Assad tanks were destroyed on the front of al-Rashideen as well, after targeting them with thermal rockets.

“After Assad regime’s forces cut al-Castello Road, which was the only way to let in humanitarian, relief, and medical aid …, Jaysh al-Fatah started to think of an alternative plan … to break the siege laid on our brothers in Aleppo,” Abu Yusuf al-Muhajer, the spokesperson of Ahrar al-Sham, a major faction in Jaysh al-Fatah, said in a video statement.

“The preparation for the plan started about twenty days ago. Thank God, we have completed all preparation stages. Today, with God’s help, we are going to start working on the first axes,” al-Muhajer added.

Regarding the places of the battle, al-Muhajer explained, “The fronts of the battle stretch about twenty kilometers starting from al-Sabqieh barricade and ending at al-Hikmah School.”

All the factions of Jaysh al-Fatah are going to participate in this battle, according to al-Muhajer.

Jaysh al-Fatth is an alliance of Islamic opposition fighting groups which unified in a joint military operation room in its first battle in which they captured the centre of Idlib from the hands of Assad regime on the 15th of March 2015. The allied army is known for the high coordination.
