Qatar’s main airport adds $10 Tax on passengers

Doha’s Hamad International Airport, added, as from Tuesday, a $10 fee for all departing passengers, including those catching connecting flights, following a decision over the weekend, revealed The Associated Press.

According to a statement by the airport, the charges are for using airport facilities, and the fee will be applied to tickets issued after 30 August and for any travel starting on 1 December onward .

This new fee would be used to “further increase the airport’s capacity and invest in new infrastructure”, the statement said.

Airport fees, while common elsewhere in the world, have until recently been avoided by Gulf states as they seek to gain a competitive advantage for business and become regional hubs.

Only in June, some 1.33 million passengers traveled through Hamad International Airport.
