– A senior military officer was gunned down Saturday north of the Egyptian capital, Cairo, according to local media.

Brigadier-General Adel Ragai, the commander of the 9th infantry brigade, was killed outside his home in al-Oboor city, north of Cairo, the media reported, citing unnamed sources, according to Anadolu Agency.

The Egyptian army has yet to comment on the attack.

Saturday’s killing of the army commander is considered the first since President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi, a former army chief, came to power in 2014 following the ouster of the country’s first democratically-elected president Mohamed Morsi in a 2013 military coup.
