Turkey’s Former PM appeals to world leaders to be accountable and stop Aleppo massacre

Turkey’s former Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu has called on the whole world, particularly the UNSC, the OIC, and the international human rights organizations to bear their responsibilities and move to stop the massacres in Aleppo.

In a statement he published yesterday on his Facebook official account, Turkey’s former Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu called on all world states to stop the ongoıng massacres ın Aleppo, sayıng, “I call on all states, and foremost the United Nations Security Council Permanent Members, who prepared the groundwork for these murders with the decisions they didn’t take, the Islamic Cooperation Organization, and the international human rights organizations to speak out in the name of their consciences, human rights, and history to call for these massacres to stop.”

Ahmet Davutoğlu expressed his disappointment at the passive reaction of the international community towards what is going on in Syria’s Aleppo, “Today, world history registers another failed test for humanity. Today, the states of the world remained silent in the face of another massacre.”

Davutoğlu also said that those who remain silent towards these atrocities in Aleppo are “complicit in a crime that will not be forgotten for centuries,” adding that what happens in Aleppo against its population “will be remembered as a disgrace to all humanity”.

The Turkish former prime minister blamed “the murderous Assad regime and their unscrupulous supporters”, and “Iran and Russia” for all the violations that have been committed against “innocent women and children” in Aleppo.

Ahmet Davutoğlu also said Turkey has “shared Aleppo’s pain from the first day to the present day and tried to support it”, pledging that “today too they will do all that they can to help”.

The Turkish former PM concluded his statement addressing the people of Aleppo, saying  that Turkey will remain by their side, “I call on all my oppressed and stoic brothers and sisters of Aleppo. We were by your side as a nation in history, we are with you today, and we will also be with you tomorrow.”

The complete text of former Turkish PM’s statement:

“Today, world history registers another failed test for humanity.

Today, the states of the world remained silent in the face of another massacre.

Today, each person living in peace worldwide who remains silent is complicit in a crime that will not be forgotten for centuries.

What has happened to the streets, the castle, the marketplace and most importantly, to the people who make Aleppo the charming city it is will be remembered as a disgrace for all humanity.

Over recent months, the murderous Assad regime and their unscrupulous supporters, with the support of Iran and Russia, have carried out an occupation of a city which is a cradle of civilization at the cost of the lives of innocent women and children.

They should not imagine that they have taken Aleppo, which has never bowed to tyrants over centuries, through these massacres.

They should not imagine that they will find comfort in any order they erect on the blood of innocent women and children in that noble city.

The murders in Aleppo have shown that improved communications, with everyone able to directly access them, will not be enough to prevent mass murder. A civilized city, a city of science and knowledge, has been lost on the screens of mobile phones.

Syrians will certainly one day demand answers for these massacres, from the 7-year old Bana, who tried to connect with the world from the city she lived in through tweets, to the mother Sabah, martyred in her wheelchair, and from Ümran, whose silent gaze at the world struck at our hearts, to the baby Aylan, washed up on the coast and the conscience of humanity.

I call on all states, and foremost the United Nations Security Council Permanent Members, who prepared the groundwork for these murders with the decisions they didn’t take, the Islamic Cooperation Organization, and the international human rights organizations to speak out in the name of their consciences, human rights, and history to call for these massacres to stop.

Those who do not speak out today will never again be able to speak in the name of humanity.

As for my noble nation, who have shared Aleppo’s pain from the first day to the present day and tried to support it, today too they will do all that they can to help.

I call on all my oppressed and stoic brothers and sisters of Aleppo. We were by your side as a nation in history, we are with you today, and we will also be with you tomorrow.”
