Gatrani says Presidency Council’s Italian migrant deal “void”

Serraj had no right to sign migrant deal says Boycotting Presidency Council member Ali Gatrani

Boycotting Presidency Council member Ali Gatrani has said that its head Faiez Serraj had no right to sign last week’s migrant deal with Italy. The agreement was therefore “void”.

Gatrani, who is officially a PC deputy-premier,  is insisting that under the Constitutional Declaration no international agreements can be made without the approval of the House of Representatives.

Gatrani also said  yesterday that he believed that the Italian government and EU authorities simply did not understand the degree to which Libyans disputed the legality of the Presidency Council.

He warned that via the migrant deal, other states were not only trying to interfere in Libya’s internal affairs, but were seeking to keep migrants in the country.
