Algeria, Ethiopia to take economic cooperation to “level of excellence”

Algeria and Ethiopia were working to take the economic cooperation to the “level of excellence,” Algerian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ramtane Lamamra said Wednesday.

Following a meeting with Ethiopian Foreign Minister Workneh Gebeyehu, Lamamra said that the 4th joint ministerial commission of Algeria and Ethiopia, which is to be held Thursday in Algiers, will be sanctioned by the signing of several agreements, “which will help heighten the cooperation between the two countries to the level of excellence.”

Algeria and Ethiopia are “among the most influential countries in Africa and have a profound impact on the African joint action.”

Lamamra said that these cooperation efforts fall within framework of the orientations of the two presidents, during their meeting in Algiers in 2015, which marked the launch of new cooperation process to enhance the relations between the two countries.

Moreover, Lamamra said he and his Ethiopian counterpart have addressed several important issues, notably the support provided by Algeria and the African Union (AU) and to the African joint action.

“There is a wide convergence of views between Algeria and Ethiopia, concerning the need to support the African joint action and provide efficient solutions to the continent problems,” the minister said.

Ethiopia is one of the three African countries representing the continent in the UN Security Council, Lamamra said, stressing the importance of developing a joint action.

The Security Council is currently examining several important African issues, including the situation in the Horn of Africa and the Sahel, in addition to Libya crisis and Western Sahara question, which was the subject of a report of new UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, recalled Lamamra.

For his part, the Ethiopian Minister of Foreign Affairs, welcomed the “privileged relations” between his country and Algeria in both political and economic fields.
