Neither Egypt nor Qatar have clarified the situation of Egyptian residents in Qatar after Egypt announced cutting diplomatic relations with Qatar
Egyptian Minister of Expatriate Affairs Nabila Makram announced on Monday that no complaints were filed by Egyptian residents in Qatar yet, adding that there is no information about the Qatari intentions towards them, according to state-owned media.
Makram added that Egypt is ready to receive Egyptians returning from Qatar in case they would return, adding that they are welcome to return and the state is ready to offer them employment, reported local media.
Furthermore, Makram said that she reassured Egyptian residents in Qatar that the ministry would exert all efforts to guarantee their safety, adding that she left them her personal number to receive complaints or concerns.
Egypt, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Yemen, and Libya announced on Monday that they would be cutting diplomatic ties with Qatar, shutting down air and sea ports and giving Qatari diplomatic missions 48 hours to leave to their countries.
While the Egyptian government has not elaborated on the situation of Egyptian residents in Qatar, other countries, including Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE, announced that their citizens are prohibited from travelling to, residing in, or passing through Qatar.
The three countries gave Qatari nationals on their soil 14 days to leave to their countries.
Makram said that the number of Egyptians residing in Qatar is about 300,000.
