Qatar’s Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohamed bin Abdul-Rahman al-Thani said on Thursday that the UN is the best place for finding a legal solution for the Saudi-led blockade, news agencies reported.
He said that the boycotting countries, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Egypt are displaying “stubbornness” and have not taken any “positive” steps to solve the crisis.
The foreign minister vowed that his country would spare no effort to overcome “violations” of international law. “The UN is the right platform to start from,” he told reporters after discussing the crisis with the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.
Sheikh Mohamed bin Abdul-Rahman also noted that the official stances of the boycotting countries are “contradictory,” yet they continue their defamation campaign against Qatar by sometimes “paying money to demonise Qatar.”
About the type of an acceptable agreement, the foreign minister said that it must include mutual obligations and not diktats or ultimatums.
While responding to questions from reporters, Sheikh Mohamed bin Abdul-Rahman confirmed that his country had briefed the members of the UN Security Council about his country’s demands.
